When constructing our film, we used three pieces of technology. camera, tripod and computer (including adobe premier elements).
- By using a camera we learnt how to use it, how to hold it and how to shoot some footage. In most of our shots we used a tripod although in some shots (like our beginning one) we chose to have it handheld, so that it could look like one of our characters was walking to the door, and add an interesting touch to our establishing shot.
- As we wanted our film to look professional, we didn't want shakey camera movements that you would get from just holding a camera, so we decided to use a tripod so that our shots would be steady, and also so we could experiment with different shots like a high angle shot, as the tripod's are able to be taller than an average person, so can capture shots from a high angle.
- For our editing, we used adobe premier elements, although at first we didn't really understand how to use it, once we got the hang of it it proved simple and effective to use as there are plenty of transitions to use, for example when our end scene fades out, then our film name fades in. We used fade to black quite a few times as we didn't want our scenes to jump too much as it may have caused confusion with our audience members. Without adobe premier and these transitions, our film may not have looked so professional, and may have looked very thrown together. Also we have our titles fading in and our towards the beginning, so if they were to just suddenly appear, they may stand out too much and distract people's attention from our film. Below is a screen grab of some of our clips and all of the titles that are included in our film.
- The audio feature on adobe premier elements, was very handy and easy to use, as it enabled us to cut out the audio on some parts of our film, where there was bad background noise and no talking. By being able to mute parts that we just wanted the music to play over it created a tenser atmosphere for our audience as they are left wondering if a sudden loud noise is going to occur.
- For sharing and writing about our film, we used youtube and blogger. We used youtube as it is very popular and easy to use, and uploading videos on to it is simple. Therefore uploading our film to share it was very simple to do. Blogger was used by us so that we could post our films onto our blogs and show the research and planning that went into our film. It also helped to show the progress of our journey from first learning about how to make a film, to actually making one.
- One other program we used was youtube converter, we used this so that we could get the 'ghost house pictures' logo for the beginning of our film, and also the music for our film. Without the youtube converter we would have struggled to display our soundtrack research on blogger and we would not have been able to have the 'ghost house pictures' logo, therefore making our film not look very professional.
