Comparison of victim characters from our film 'Signature' and 'The Ring'
- This is a screen grab of our main character Amy along with one of the characters from The Ring. We chose to use Amy as a character in our film as she mirrors the stereotypical victim in a horror film, due to her having blonde hair and wearing light clothing.
- From both images, it is clear to see that there are some similarities between the two of them. One of the similarities which is a stereotypical view, is that they are both blonde. The blonde girl is generally a victim in a horror film as she is seen as more vulnerable due to people not thinking that she is very smart. In horror films, the blonde girl generally runs into the bad guy by accident, so is always victimised by the villian.
- Another similarity between our character, and the character from the ring, is that they are both in light, casual clothing. By putting them in light, casual clothing, it shows that they are very girly, so would not be classed as 'masculine' which would suggest that they would not be able to defend themselves, should something bad happen. Also by putting them in casual clothing in a house, it shows that they are in familiar surroundings so do not need to dress up, as they are in the safeness of their home, without the judgement of others causing them to look smarter.
- In both films, the blonde character is the victim that the bad guy is going after. This is a similarity between the films, as in our film the bad guy is waiting to attack Amy, and in 'The Ring' the bad guy is lurking waiting for the '7 days' after the videotape to be finished.
- One more similarity between the two is that they are both female. Females are generally the victim more than men in horror films, as men are 'masculine' and able to defend themselves, whereas women are seen as weaker.
